Pendleton Chamber Photo Contest Rules


What we’re looking for:

A photo suitable for the cover of the 2019 Pendleton Chamber of Commerce’s Relocation Guide & Membership Directory (formerly known as the Visitors Guide & Membership Directory). The Guide will measure approximately 8.5” across by 11” tall and will print on 80# No. 3 Gloss paper.

The theme for the Chamber Guide this year is:


Some ideas about different types of photos to get you started:

  • Pendleton Life: Photos representing Pendletontonians and/or our way of life, traditions, culture, or authentic “only in Pendleton” moments.
  • Scenic: Photos emphasizing the landscape and scenery of Pendleton with or without the human element.
  • Adventure: Photos depicting an active pursuit in Pendleton: hiking, biking, bird watching, boating, running, fishing, etc.

Photographs must have been taken by the entrant in the calendar years of 2017, 2018 or 2019.

Images must be formatted to a minimum of 1800 pixels by 1200 pixels at 300 dpi (JPG format).

Photographs which have been obviously altered with digital enhancements or composite imaging will not be accepted. Minor adjustments, including spotting, dodging and burning, sharpening, contrast and slight color adjustment or the digital equivalents are acceptable. If the judges determine that a photographer has altered his or her photo, they reserve the right to disqualify it.

For a photo in which a person is recognizable, you must secure a model release from the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject’s parent or guardian and provide it to the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce upon request. Photos that violate or infringe upon another person’s rights, including but not limited to copyright, are not eligible.

How to enter:

Only digital entries will be considered and accepted. By submitting an entry, you are agreeing to the rules of the contest. You may submit multiple entries.

Entries which do not follow contest submission rules may be disallowed at the discretion of the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce contest judges.

By entering the contest, entrants grant the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce a royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed, for any educational, promotional, publicity, exhibition, archival, calendar, scholarly and all other standard Pendleton Chamber of Commerce purposes. Any photograph reproduced in the Chamber Guide will include a photographer credit. The Pendleton Chamber of Commerce will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses.

Entry deadline:

All entries must be received by the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce by 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2019 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019.


Judging of the annual contest will be conducted by staff and board members of the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce. Winning photographs and selected finalists will be published in the 2019 Pendleton Chamber of Commerce Relocation Guide & Membership Directory, and subsequently on We reserve the right to change the date of publication of the winners’ images in the print edition and online. Decisions of the judges will be final.

A grand-prize winner and second and third place winners will be selected, as well as honorable mentions. The grand-prize winning photo will appear on the cover of the Guide, and the winner will be given a ¼-page space in the Guide at no charge, to be used for their biography and/or to advertise their business or organization.

Winners will be notified of their status and will appear on the Chamber’s website on or about March 8, 2019. The contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. The Pendleton Chamber of Commerce reserves the right to cancel the contest or modify these rules at its discretion. Decisions of the Chamber judges will be final.
