Pendleton takes pride in its historic downtown business district. Over $4 million has been invested to restore many of the original turn-of-the-century buildings in various styles which has enabled Downtown Pendleton to retain its authentic western-town ambience. The City was platted in 1868 and incorporated in 1880, with the Chamber of Commerce (then called the Commercial Association) being formed in 1893. Several businesses in Pendleton have been in existence that entire time, and they represent what every town back then needed to make it last... an undertaker, a newspaper, a saloon, and a church, among others. And yes, they're still around! And although other establishments proudly boast one-hundred-year histories here and maintain their traditions, they are firmly entrenched in the 21st century as well.
